Match Details

East Bengal FC vs Hyderabad FC (EBFC VS HFC)
League: Hero Super Cup
Date: Wednesday,13th Mar 2023
Time: 8:30 P.M (IST)
Venue: Manjeri Payyanad Stadium

EAST BENGAL FC

Despite taking the lead in the 38th minute and having opportunities to score a second goal through Jake Jervis, Stephen Constantine’s team could only manage a 1-1 draw with Odisha FC in their Super Cup match.

East Bengal had complained about the challenging circumstances surrounding their preparations and travel for Super Cup games, but they could not use the same excuse for their opening group stage match.

A victory would have been a relief for East Bengal, who must now win their second group match against Hyderabad FC to remain in contention. The team has never won against Hyderabad FC, and a loss in this match would compound the disappointment of their ISL season and increase pressure on the board from the fans. A draw will keep them alive in the tournament, but a win is crucial to building momentum and emulating their 2018 final appearance.

HYDERABAD FC

In contrast, Hyderabad FC dominated their first group match against Aizawl FC, winning 2-1 with goals from Joel Chianese and Joao Victor.

Although Ivan Veras scored a late goal for Aizawl, Hyderabad FC was not overly troubled and would have preferred to keep a clean sheet. With destiny in their hands, the 2021-22 ISL champions can qualify for the Super Cup knockouts if they win their second match against East Bengal, against whom they have not conceded a goal in the last three encounters, scoring eight in the process.

A victory would cement their position at the top of the table, and they could even qualify without playing their final group match if Aizawl FC draws with Odisha FC. This will be the first time these teams face each other outside their league.
