Time: 07:30 PM (IST)
Venue: Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium,Goa
On Saturday, the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa will witness the former ISL champions Bengaluru FC go head-to-head with ATK Mohun Bagan for the 2022-23 ISL final. The match will begin at 7:30 PM and can be streamed live. This match will be the final game of the ninth season of India’s premier football competition, the ISL, which has been running since 2014.
Bengaluru FC, led by coach Simon Grayson, will be participating in their third final. The team won one final against FC Goa in 2018-19 and lost another against Chennaiyin FC in 2017-18.
Despite finishing fourth in the league standings with 34 points from 20 matches, Bengaluru FC had a tough path to reach the final. They defeated Kerala Blasters in a dramatic match during the playoffs, followed by a win over table-toppers Mumbai City FC in the semi-finals after a penalty shootout (9-8) since the teams were tied at 1-1 on aggregate.
ATK Mohun Bagan, on the other hand, finished third in the league standings with 34 points from 20 matches. They won against Odisha FC in the playoffs by a 2-0 margin and went on to beat defending champions Hyderabad FC in a penalty shootout in the semi-finals after both legs ended goallessly.
This will be the second time in three seasons that the Mariners have qualified for the ISL final. They previously lost to Mumbai City FC 2-1 in the 2020-21 final at the Nehru Stadium in Goa.
ATK Mohun Bagan vs Bengaluru FC head-to-head in ISL
In their six previous encounters, ATK Mohun Bagan has emerged victorious in four matches against Bengaluru FC, who have only managed to win one game. The remaining fixture ended in a draw.
During the current season, the two sides clashed for the first time in December at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium, where ATK Mohun Bagan, managed by Juan Ferrando, secured a 1-0 win. In their second encounter at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan Stadium in Kolkata in February, Bengaluru FC came out on top, defeating ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1.
ATKMB vs BFC Team News
ATKMB
According to Juan Ferrando, the team is in good physical condition, but Ashique Kuruniyan’s availability for the final will depend on a last-minute evaluation. Despite his impressive performance, Kiyan Nassiri was replaced by Liston Colaco at the end of the first half. The coach will face a difficult decision if both players are fit to start the game. Pritam Kotal, who scored the winning penalty in a shootout and has won the trophy twice before, will be playing in his fourth ISL final.
BFC
It is unlikely that Simon Grayson will make any changes to the starting lineup, sticking with the consistent back-three of Aleksandar Jovanovic, Sandesh Jhingan, and Bruno Edgar. However, Alan Costa is a viable option from the bench to strengthen their defense later in the match, while Sunil Chhetri remains a reliable finisher up front. Roy Krishna, Javi Hernandez, Jhingan, and Prabir Das, all former players of beaten finalists ATK Mohun Bagan in the 2020/21 season, now have the opportunity to claim the trophy with Bengaluru FC.
